At a local CVS, I had to ring a bell (three times) and wait for 10 minutes to get an employee to open a locked cabinet containing CVS-brand soap. I asked the assistant manager who finally came, "What's the deal with the security? It's just soap!" I half-expected him to blame terrorism, but he said that over $2,000 in soap was stolen recently and it's generally the most stolen item in the store. Mind you, this locked cabinet did not contain all soap sold in this CVS.

It's funny, but the truth is that theft rings target chain drug stores to steal common consumer items.
