A note from our office "building manager" about "Earth Day" (submitted to the indispensable "Blog" of "Unnecessary" Quotation Marks).
To Tenant Contacts for each Suite at [redacted]:
Thank you for attending the “compost roll-out” event yesterday. For those unable to attend we had a display sampling of what goes into compost and recycling containers, as well as our vendor in from our janitorial supply firm to “show off” the microfiber and “green” cleaning equipment and solutions we use at the Building.
But the main reason for the event was to “kick off” our tenant compost program. Our janitors will be picking up the compost waste starting this evening. We have had an “award winning” recycling program for some time at [redacted] so there is no change to the recycling program.
We know adding the compost component is a “change” in thinking and acting, and encouraged and appreciated by most, and we understand there will be a “learning curve” and questions. For now, if in question (about what to put in composting and recycling) err on the side of placing the item in “trash” so we don’t contaminate the contents in each individual container. When a container is contaminated the entire contents goes to the landfill, so we want to do our best to get the correct items in the correct containers from the onset.
Everyone at the Building has already been doing a great job of recycling. These containers will continue to be picked up when full by our janitorial staff. We are now adding the compost component. Composting (because it is “smelly material”) will be picked up from your Suite each evening (excludes weekends and holidays when there is no janitorial service).
We have been composting in the Building Office for the past month, so we know first hand there will be questions about what goes where. You will find that it becomes easier once you “get on a roll”. It is amazing to see that there is hardly any “trash” anymore. You can feel good about all your green efforts at work.
Thank you for your anticipated cooperation with our new composting program and successful continuation of our recycling program.
Happy Earth Day!
