On an unusally sunny summer day on the west side of town, I strapped on the walkin' boots and trekked westward. The beach was calling.
But things looked ominous over St. Anne of the Sunset Church (seen here on Google Maps) at Funston Street. Is that the face of Jesus in those bizarre clouds? Or someone more nefarious?
(As always, click a pic to enlarge it.)
Westward I moved. Alas, the sun disappeared somewhere around 32nd Avenue. By the time my feet touched sand, this pathetic gray orb struggled to warm us.
But the grim skies didn't bring down the spirits of this little guy. This is my new Windows wallpaper.
And the summer gloom does not deter hardy local human beings, either. We are after all Californians, some more recent than others. And nothing beats the healthy look you get from an afternoon of fog-tanning.

One of the worst sunburns I ever had was after a morning of fog tanning on Huntington beach. Cool 70 degrees, no sun. Torched! Ahhh, I loved it.

Chicago was 91, low humidity, and sunny. Rockin' beach weather on the Big Lake, bro. (Thus ends a Midwesterner's lame attempt at talkin' Cali.)

That last picture is just sad! Of course, I was out in the sun this weekend, and managed to get a burn while remaining in the shade, so I shouldn't talk.

Sad? I disagree, Dalton. Ocean Beach on a warm, foggy day is a sublime, experience. No fighting for real estate. No boomboxes. No parties of back-tattooed junior college chicks and meatheads trying to hook up. Just the sound of the crashing surf and the silvery atmosphere. I love it.
